Guy Pearce reveals he decided early in life he ‘didn’t need’ children

The very private actor opens up.

Guy Pearce has admitted that from an early age he felt he ‘didn’t need’ children.

The 50-year-old actor told The Daily Telegraph, ‘I’d got to a point in my life, quite early on in my life where I really thought I knew I was never going to have kids, I didn’t need to have kids

However, that all changed for the veteran actor after he welcomed his first child, son Monte, with Games Of Thrones star partner Carice van Houten.

Monte, who was born in 2016, changed his famous father’s views on parenting.

‘I’m absolutely besotted and fascinated by him and [fatherhood]’, Pearce told the publication.

The actor began his relationship with 41-year-old Dutch actress and singer Carice in 2015.

Guy announced the birth of the couple’s son on Twitter in 2016, writing:  ‘A cute little package arrived and told us his name’s Monte Pearce. We think we’re gonna keep him. Placenta smoothie anyone? @caricevhouten.’

Recently, Pearce revealed he struggled with suicidal thoughts following his split from wife of 18 years, Kate Mestitz in 2015.

Speaking to the Herald Sun, the  actor admitted he was at his lowest whilst filming overseas in the months that followed his relationship breakdown.

‘I had a little period in the middle of 2015 where I was staggering across busy streets in Berlin where I thought, “If I get knocked down by a car, that will be an easy way out,”‘ he confessed.

‘I wasn’t wanting that but I think probably like Jeff Buckley when he went swimming in Wolf River that time, “If a current takes me down then so be it.”‘

Thankfully, the Australian actor was able to get himself back on trach, crediting music for helping to set him on the road to recovery.

‘I was literally sitting there for hours at night, drinking, playing chords over and over and crying and crying — it was really pathetic,’ he said.
