Ellen DeGeneres surprised fans when she appeared on her talk show this week with a much shorter and much lighter hairdo than usual.
But, the tv host reveals that there was a very traumatic reason behind the new look.

“I had my hair done over the weekend — and by ‘over the weekend,’ I mean the entire weekend,” she revealed on The Ellen Show.
“When you have short hair you have to colour it often because my hair grows really fast so I am constantly colouring it.”
Ellen went on to reveal that she was going to dye her whole head to make the dying process quicker – but, it all went horribly wrong.
‘It started on Thursday, and it started with the same sentence all bad hair stories start with: “I tried a new person,”‘ she said.
After sitting in the chair for hours Ellen was left with a colour she wasn’t expecting.
“It was many colours, I couldn’t even pinpoint what colour it was,” she jokes.
But, believe it or not things got worse for the tv host, who revealed that the dying process damaged her hair.
“So my hair was falling out — like, literally, I would touch my hair and hair was falling out,” she said.
“I think my hair was so embarrassed, it didn’t want anything to do with my head, and said, ‘I’m getting out of here.’”
Ellen called a team of colourists into her house to fix the bad dye job. She revealed they were able to fix the colour, but that her hair is very sensitive for the next few weeks after the damage.
“I can’t touch it. I can’t wash it,” Ellen said about the hair. “Today I should be fine if I don’t sneeze or blink.”
