Delta Goodrem’s family tragedy

The superstar coach breaks down.

In an emotional display, Delta Goodrem has shockingly revealed a sad family tragedy during the show’s blind auditions.

The 33-year-old was overcome with emotion during the auditions for the new season of The Voice when 18-year-old contestant Oskar from Mount Eliza revealed that his grandmother had Alzheimer’s and the song he chose would bring memories back for her.

Singing entirely in Spanish, Oskar performed a song he learned for his grandmother, Abeula, about her homeland.

Abeula suffers from dementia and Oskar said that he believes that by singing this song to her daily, she remembers the wonderful memories of her past.

Moved by Oskar’s story, Delta then tearfully revealed that her grandma also suffered from Alzheimer’s.

Telling the tragic tale, the singer revealed she used to show her grandmother pictures, in the hope of bringing back her memories.

While confessing the situation, the singer became emotional as she revealed her grandmother’s condition.

‘My mum’s mum – she got Alzheimer’s,’ said a teary-eyed Delta in response.

‘She would have photo books to show her, but it was hard to bring her back,’ she added.

It’s not the first time that the popular singer has opened up about her family secrets.

Two years ago, Delta appeared on the SBS program Who Do You Think You Are? and spoke about the shocking revelations that surfaced.

During her time on the ancestry program, Delta discovered the unsavoury truth that her great-grandmother Florence gave birth to an illegitimate son called Tom, fathered by a Thomas Park, who had been involved in ‘multiple criminal convictions for larceny and fraud’.

‘It was like, did no-one know this?’ Delta said.

When speaking to news.com.au, Delta revealed it was hard for herself and her mother Lea to ‘process’ the information.

‘My parents taught me such a good value system…the fact that my mum’s father’s father was not a respectable man was confronting,’ she added.
