Britney Spears has announced she’s taking an “indefinite hiatus” from her Las Vegas residency following the news her father “almost died”.
The iconic star explained via social media and a press release that she was taking a break from work to care for her 66-year-old father, Jamie Spears after his “colon spontaneously ruptured”.
Two months ago, Mr. Jamie Spears became seriously ill and was rushed to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas. His colon spontaneously ruptured and he was immediately admitted into surgery,’ read a press release.
Mr Spears is now recovering at home after spending a month in hospital. He is expected to make a full recovery.
The hotly anticipated Britney: Domination residency was planned to launch in February at Las Vegas’ Park Theatre and run through August, but it is now being placed on hold “until further notice.”
“I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say,” 37-year-old Britney shared via Instagram.
“I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart,” she continued.
“However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make. A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died.
“We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand.”
