Just months after Emma Watkins and Lachlan Gillespie called time on their marriage, it seems fellow Wiggle Anthony Field and his wife of 15 years, Michaela could be following in their footsteps.
Fed up with her husband’s hectic workload keeping him away from her, New Idea understands that former dancer and mother-of-three Michaela has walked out of their Sydney home to spend time with their kids around her friends and family in Melbourne.
Michaela’s move, combined with the fact that Anthony has not been seen wearing his wedding ring for months, has sparked speculation about the state of their marriage.
This isn’t the first Anthony’s marriage has been rumoured to be on the rocks. In 2009, the 55-year-old’s relationship with Wiggles dancer Caterina Mete was put under the microscope after photos emerged of the pair spending quality time together away from the stage.
“Although the rumours are only hearsay, the best way to end speculation that your marriage is in trouble is to keep your wedding ring on,” a Wiggles insider says. “In the past, Anthony has certainly appeared in public without it from time to time – but not for months on end.”
According to New Idea’s source, Michaela enrolled the couple’s eldest daughter Lucia at ballet school in Melbourne back in January.
“Miki’s family are from Melbourne, so she has a good support network there,” the insider adds.
“But even before this Melbourne move, Miki and Anthony were seeing way, way less of each other than most married couples due to Anthony’s work commitments.”
In 2013 Michaela, who married Anthony in 2003, told website Mamamia what it was like raising a family with her husband constantly away.
“Anthony travels at least seven months of the year, so I couldn’t rely on him for too much day-to-day maintenance,” she said at the time.
She reflected: “I have an appreciation, understanding and respect for single mothers. Being on my own quite a bit, I understand the demands of a single parent.”
New Idea reached out to Anthony and his management team for comment, however they were unable to provide a response due to Anthony’s work commitments.
Meanwhile our source spills: “It’s hoped there is no backlash when fans notice Anthony isn’t wearing his ring because it doesn’t mean there’s trouble in paradise.”
