One person has been killed and several wounded, including two Australians, after a knife attack in London.
Police say a 19-year-old man of Norwegian of Somali origin, stabbed six people in London’s Russell Square on Wednesday night, News.com.au reports.
An American woman in her 60s was killed and two Australians were injured. The Sydney Morning Herald reports the woman suffered a knife wound to her back and the man suffered a wound to his chest, but have both since been released from hospital.
London Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner Mark Rowley says the cause of the attack ‘increasingly points to mental health issues’.
‘So far we have found no evidence of radicalisation or anything that would suggest the man in our custody was motivated by terrorism,’ he said.
‘Whilst the investigation is not yet complete, all of the work that we have done so far increasingly points to this tragic incident as having been triggered by mental health issues.’
Police arrested the man after he was tasered.
