With only a few months until the Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcome their first child, Meghan and Harry are sure to be thinking about who they will choose as godparents for the new royal baby.
While Prince William and Kate Middleton seem like an obvious choice it is unlikely they will receive the honour as royals tend not to opt for immediate family.
Instead they will likely choose friends and given Meghan’s connection to Hollywood the new royal tot could have some very high profile godparents.
Here we take a look at some potential options.
Jessica Mulroney
She might live back in Canada, but it is likely that Meghan will select her best friend for the important role. After all the stylists three children, twins John and Brian and daughter Ivy all played a role at Meghan and Harry’s wedding.
Charlie Van Straubenzee
As one of Harry’s oldest friends, Charlie is hotly tipped to be a godparent. Harry and Charlie met at their prep school Lidgrove and the prince was a classmate of Charlie’s brother Henry, who tragically died in a car crash in 2002. William is also close to the family and selected Charlie’s brother Thomas to be Princess Charlotte’s godfather.
Serena Williams
The tennis star has been a close friend to Meghan since the pair first met at the Super Bowl back in 2010. “We have always supported each other, just been there for each other through a lot,” Serena said before Meghan’s appearance at Wimbledon in 2017.
And, there are sure to be plenty of playdates between the new royal tot and Serena’s daughter Alexis.
Priyanka Chopra
The two actresses met back in 2016 but they hit it off right away. “We bonded as actors,” Chopra told People of their friendship in September 2017. “We just became friends, like two girls would.” The actress also attended the couple’s nuptials.
Nicholas and Alice Van Custem
The couple have been friends with the royal family for several years now and Nicholas and Alice named Harry as godfather to their daughter Florence. Will Harry return the favour?
