On July 6, the Official Winner of the 2024 Australia’s Best Sausage Roll was awarded to a small bakery in South Australia.
Banana Boogie Bakery in Belair took out the title for the second year in a row at the Baking Association of Australia’s (BAA) South Australian Baking Show.
The SA bakery competed against 48 other bakeries, and over the weekend, a total of 247 pieces of products were judged.
As amazing as this award is, bakery owner Jason Spencer told 7NEWS he was relatively confident they were going to win again this year.
That being said, there was only one point separating Banana Boogie from its runner-up after they made a slight change in the recipe after last year’s feedback.
“We were just trialling a little bit thinner on the pastry and stuff just from the comments we got last year, and some of the things we changed the judges sort of said ‘don’t do that’,” Spencer told the publication.
“So we’ll go back to the way we were doing it.”
After they were crowned, Banana Boogie Bakery took to Instagram to share the happy news.
“What an amazing achievement by the Banana Boogie bakers on the weekend,” they wrote.
“Along with taking out best sausage roll in Australia for the second year in a row they also took out some amazing categories at the state baking competition.”
The bakery also took out first place for best vanilla slice, chocolate donuts, steak pie and light rye bread.
