She’s worth an eye-watering $281 million.
But Britney Spears hasn’t had control of her fortune since her 2007 breakdown.
Now, questions are being asked about who will oversee her estate as conservator, following news of her father Jamie’s deteriorating health, and Brit’s own admittance to a mental health facility just days ago.
Beverly Hills attorney Jeffrey W. Steinberger told Radar Online that Jamie, 66, could appoint a new conservator if he’s “incapacitated,” after his co-conservator, Andrew Wallet resigned last month.
It was reported that Britney’s 28-year-old sister, Jamie Lynn had stepped in after her father’s colon ruptured in November.
“If Britney is in good shape with her sister she could handle it, or any other family member,” Steinberger told Radar. “It would be Jamie’s decision.”
The attorney also explained that if the Spears patriarch passed away suddenly, or was in no state to make decisions, the court would make further decisions.
He said the 37-year-old singer could even petition the court to gain back control of her estate.
“The court can send her to the appropriate therapist to find out if she’s competent to handle her money,” he explained.
“It’s up to the court. She’s an adult and has the right to her money.”
