Following allegations that the brothers fell out over William’s lack of confidence in Harry’s choice of bride, Harry and Meghan separated their household from Kensington Palace and created their own court in Windsor.

‘I was told, after the royal wedding, Harry and Meghan didn’t see Kate and William personally,’ says Emily Andrews, royal correspondent for The Sun, in an interview with Yahoo UK’s The Royal Box.

On the matter that triggered their feud – William’s reported desire that Harry slow down with Meghan before committing to marriage –  Andrews says that things escalated quickly, and Meghan got involved.

‘I think it was meant very kindly in a well-meaning way but Harry was very defensive of Meghan and took it completely the wrong way and said to William something along the lines of, “You’re trying to destroy this relationship before it’s even started”.’

Andrews claims she was told by a top official that the palace was now regretting creating the legend of the brothers’ unshakable unity in the years following their mother Diana’s untimely death.

‘We all remember those two young boys walking behind Diana’s coffin and we as a nation, our heart went out to them, that really is how we’ve seen them ever since,’ she explains,’ she says.

‘I think behind the scenes, Harry and William’s relationship has always been up and down actually but of course, we’ve never really seen that.’

On the upside, Andrews says things have started to improve since the breakup of the household, with the brothers being given more space to shape their own directions.

‘I think that has improved matters,’ she says.
