Despite his constant denials, Ben Fordham has been tipped to front the struggling Today show.
And, after filling in on the breakfast slot again, New Idea can exclusively reveal there may be another reason for his return.

After reportedly turning down the hosting gig, which once belonged to Karl Stefanovic, it appears the radio presenter may have his sights set on another role.
“Ben wants A Current Affair,” claims our industry insider. “There is too much pressure with Karl’s old job and failing ratings, but ACA is a dream come true for him.”
With bosses apparently on board with the shake-up that will see Ben move from 2GB radio to this primetime slot, they have been focused on building his TV profile again.
“That’s why he is back on Today,” says the source. “With Tom Steinfort getting married it’s a perfect opportunity to get Ben back on screen and get people talking again … They need viewers onside more than ever for this risky move because no-one is more loved than Tracy Grimshaw.”
Having previously admitted that she loves working on radio herself, Tracy will apparently be moved across to a regular talkback slot on 2GB.
“She is excited for a new challenge and she enjoys radio, but ACA is her baby and has been for many years,” the source says. “If Tracy makes the move it’ll be permanent, so they have to get it right.”
But Ben, who is due to welcome his third child with wife Jodie Speers, is said to be pushing for the move.
The job’s hours of 6-8pm would mean hands-on dad Ben could have more time with his family. And while fans are calling for Ben to take a permanent TV role, how will they take the change?
After all, Tracy has been hosting ACA for 14 years and built a loyal fan base. “She’s a national icon and Australians just love her,” says the source.
