The latest on Harry and Meghan’s honeymoon

Is THIS where they’re really going?

It’s not the first place you might think of for a romantic honeymoon destination.

But according to reports, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may travel to Ireland after their big day.

Sources say the royal newlyweds will make their inaugural overseas trip as a married couple to the Republic, while their honeymoon is put on hold for a period.

So when it comes to a traditional getaway after their marriage on May 19, where will they go?

Sources say a romantic break in Africa or the Caribbean could be on the cards.

Botswana for example boasts stunning wildlife, breathtaking scenery and importantly, privacy from prying eyes – and could be top of the list.

Botswana is a place Harry loves and knows well, and he reportedly whisked his fiancee to the southern African country in 2017 to mark her 36th birthday.

The trip came a year after the pair’s famous holiday in the country, where their love story really began after meeting on a blind date.

Meghan has described Botswana as ‘important’ for both of them, and Harry has revealed how they bonded in the African bush.

Speaking during their engagement interview, the prince said: ‘I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana.

‘And we – we camped out with each other under the stars… she came and joined me for five days out there, which was absolutely fantastic.’

Ms Markle’s engagement ring features diamonds from the personal collection of Diana, Princess of Wales, and a stone from Botswana, again cementing its importance to the couple.

The US actress spoke about their special relationship with the African country as she described the significance of the precious stones in her ring from Harry.

In the engagement interview, she said: ‘And you know, to be able to have this – which sort of links where you come from and Botswana which is important to us and it’s, it’s perfect.’

The Caribbean could be another honeymoon destination for the couple as Harry has toured the region extensively and enjoyed its people and culture – and already has an invitation to return as a newlywed.

Gaston Browne, the prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda, made the offer during the prince’s 2016 tour of the West Indies.

In a speech to mark the visit, he said to Harry: ‘I am told that there may be a princess and I just want to say that should you make the decision to honeymoon – then Antigua and Barbuda want to welcome you.’
