Princess Mary and her family recently enjoyed a trip to the beautiful Faroe Islands, but by all accounts it looked to be a chilly occasion as the Australian-born Royal wrapped up for the visit.
The Princess of Denmark was accompanied by her husband, Crown Prince Frederik and their four children, Princess Isabella, Princess Josephine, Prince Vincent and Prince Christian during the four-day trip to the islands – a North Atlantic archipelago, half way between Norway and Iceland.
On August 25 Frederik and Mary wrapped up warm was they visited Tjoernuvik where they were greeted by enthusiastic locals waving flags.
The Faroe Islands is part of the Kingdom of Denmark and got a home rule government in 1948.
There are some 50.000 inhabitants on the islands and of these some 13.000 live in the capital, Torshavn.
Mary clutched a bouquet of flowers and smiled warmly as she stepped out in jeans and black boots.
She wore a simple great trench quote while Frederik, also dressed casually in green and blue walked alongside her.
A day earlier, the Royal couple rugged up in hats and warm coats as they explored the village of Mikladalur near Klaksvig.
There, the family saw a statue of the Seal Woman, a mythological character known to all on the Faroe Islands.
It’s hardly surprising the Tasmanian-born Royal wrapped up for the occasion.
According to visitfaroeislands.com, summers are cool with an average temperature of 13 degrees. The islands are generally windy, cloudy and cool throughout the year.
Days are long, however, with 19 hours and 45 minutes of sunlight on the longest day of the year, June 21.
