Portia breaks silence on Ellen ‘divorce’

The actress speaks out.

Portia de Rossi, the wife of popular television host Ellen DeGeneres, has spoken out about people’s perceptions of same-sex marriage, saying it has changed for the better since when she tied the knot in 2008.

The 45-year-old actress told Us Weekly, ‘The divorce rumors came and then we really knew the perceptions had changed.’

‘I’m not kidding. I know it sounds ridiculous, but when that started happening I thought, ‘Oh, now we’re finally accepted’.’

The Arrested Development star added, ‘That means there is an acceptance for this.’

Recently, US reports have surfaced claiming the Hollywood couple are ‘on the rocks’

America’s National Enquirer sensationally claimed, in a highly controversial report, that Ellen had ‘fled’ the marital home she shares with Portia, setting the stage for a $400m divorce.

‘Multiple sources’ have purportedly told the publication the pair got into a fight to end all fights that climaxed with Ellen ripping off her wedding ring and dramatically moving out.

In the bombshell report, the National Enquirer claimed Ellen left the couple’s LA home and has kept their split hidden from friends.

‘It’s all very shady and ominous. Ellen went to great lengths to keep the news from their close friends to avoid being asked questions,’ an insider sensationally told the publication.

‘She and Portia were fighting more and more. Eventually, what normally would have been a routine back-and-forth turned nasty.’

Another source told the Enquirer, ‘They spend less and less time together.’

‘In fact, they’ve been living separate lives,’ the source outrageously added. ‘It’s gotten so bad that they hardly say a word to each other all day.’

‘Portia feels neglected and mistreated. She feels as if she supports Ellen in everything she does, while Ellen just gets aggravated and judgemental when it comes to her needs.’

The couple did not directly respond to the Enquirer’s claims.

While speaking to Us Weekly, de Rossi also opened up about launching The Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund in honour of her wife’s 60th birthday in January.

‘All of it was a complete surprise, which was very difficult. It was so difficult to keep it from her,’ she told the publication. ‘She’s so observant. I literally had to take my email address off all of our shared devices at home…because I knew that if she saw an email coming in from Africa, it would be all over. She would put it all together.

‘I thought this was a big birthday, 60, and she’s not going to do her talk show forever, and I want her to be able to look forward to retiring, to know that there was something the entertainment industry that she could sink her teeth into.

‘It was those two things.’
