ROYALS

In pictures: Princess Beatrice’s VERY varied fashion moments

The princess wore purple at the Met Gala and we all know she loves a statement hat…

Her fashion choices have been known to raise an eyebrow at times.

In fact, the beige ‘bow’ hat Princess Beatrice famously wore to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding back in 2011 was branded ‘ridiculous’ by some.

But at Monday’s prestigious Met Gala, Princess Beatrice went for a more understated look, opting for a demure, purple gown beaded with silver sequins.

By attending the event, the princess followed in footsteps of the late Princess Diana, who attended the event herself back in 1995.

The ensemble was labeled a ‘truly royal look’ by some – and it appeared to mark a foray away from some of Beatrice’s more outlandish outfits.

Back in 2008, at Peter Phillip’s wedding in Windsor, the princess opted for a very colourful butterfly headpiece.

The Philip Treacy creation split fashion commentators – with one sniping ‘I think she’ll be showing it at the Chelsea Flower Show’, in a reference to a famous garden event in the UK.

But that headpiece was nothing compared to that Philip Treacy hat worn to the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

This time commentators suggested that Beatrice looked rather like a… well… pretzel.

By 2014, Beatrice seemed to have learned from her past fashion mistakes.

She attended the annual Serpentime Gallery summer party in London looking super stylish in white – with a nod to purple with some heeled mauve sandals.

The princess certainly can’t seem pass up on the chance to sport a pop of colour – as she also clutched a lime green box purse – and wore a slick of wine-coloured lipstick.

Bold lippy was also on display in Beatrice’s sleek appearance at a private viewing of the Alexander McQueen ‘Savage Beauty’ exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London in March 2015.

This time, Beatrice appeared to evoke the screen sirens of the past with her hair swept to the side in tumbling curls.

Her tuxedo-inspired black ensemble boasted a plunging neckline and a daring slash to the thigh – leading some to call her appearance ‘show-stopping’.

Two years later, the princess again appeared to bring out her A-game in the style stakes when she attended the annual V&A summer party in a daring lace dress with her sister Eugenie.

Attending the races at Royal Ascot in 2017, with her mum Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, Beatrice’s love of a statement hat was back on display.

This time, she paired a demure beige dress with a tan and orange headpiece and bright orange clutch bag.

So with the princess opting for purple taffeta at the recent Met Gala, the question on everybody’s lips is ‘what will she wear to the wedding of the century?’

Will Beatrice go back to her roots with a big, bold hat – or has her style evolved?

We don’t have to wait long to find out…
