Serena Williams has been BANNED from wearing this outfit at the French Open

Fans have slammed the decision as 'racist'

Serena Williams has been banned from wearing her trademark black catsuit by the French Tennis Federation.

In a surprising piece of criticism on the eve of the US Open, the French Open’s president Bernard Giudicelli has revealed Serena – and other players – will need to be more conservative at future tournaments.

Serena marked her return to professional tennis at The French Open back in May following the birth of her first child in September last year.

Charting her recovery following a traumatic and life threatening birth, Williams revealed “I almost died after giving birth to my daughter Olympia,” in a CNN article.

“First my C-section wound popped open due to the intense coughing I endured as a result of the embolism.

“I returned to surgery, where the doctors found a large hematoma, a swelling of clotted blood, in my abdomen. And then I returned to the operating room for a procedure that prevents clots from traveling to my lungs.”

The sports star also explained that there was a practical reason for the full-length legs on the skintight outfit: The aim was to protect her because of past bouts with blood clots.

While Serena is yet to respond to the news, fans have been left outraged.
