Their romance appeared to be blossoming after the couple met through work earlier this year, but when Maurice Salib dumped his girlfriend of four months Christie Swadling unexpectedly, the stunning blonde had no idea it was so that he could appear on the popular reality show Love Island.

Speaking to New Idea ahead of tonight’s episode, Christie says her ex boyfriend is purely on the show for fame and not to find love.

“He is into anything to do with him being in front of the camera and fame,” she says.

“I’ve come to the realisation that he is just a liar. And I’m watching this and it makes me sad and hurt because I know that the reason he is on there is for fame.”

While Christie has had the support of her friends and family, she admits she feels betrayed by Maurice, who was her manager, and is confused by the whole situation.

“None of this makes sense to me,” she continues.

“You break off a relationship to go find a relationship – that doesn’t make sense to me. At the end of the day, I know why he is on the show and it just saddens me because there are chicks that are going to get hurt on there.”

According to Christie, Maurice broke things off with about two weeks before filming started on the Channel Nine show, hosted by Sophie Monk.

“Basically he sat me down and he was like ‘look, I just want to let you know that I’m not able to give you what you want in this relationship. I’m really invested in my career and myself at this present moment and I think we should just stay friends.'”

At that time, Christie says Maurice was basically living with her and the pair had spoken about a future together.

“The break up literally happened out of the blue,” she explains.

“We were going to get a dog – and I thought if we’re going to get a dog, you’re pretty invested. We both talked and said this wasn’t a fling and we didn’t want to waste our time with that sort of stuff.”

Watching the show, Christie says she’s already seen Maurice pull out the same lines he once used to woo her.

“Basically whatever he said to that girl on the episode last night, he’s already said to me,” she laughs.

“During our time together we did get along but Maurice does portray himself to be a bit more superior than others.”
