Samuel Johnson expresses shock following backlash over DWTS win

Sam responds to criticism

Samuel Johnson was crowned the winner of Dancing With the Stars Australia in the most shocking reality contest victory of the year on Monday night.

The actor beat out hot favourite Courtney Act – the bookies choice – and couldn’t believe the result himself, declaring: “I just want to say Courtney is the better dancer!”

Sam, 41, lifted the mirrorball trophy with partner Jorja Smith and collected $50,000 for his chosen charity, Love Your Sister which supports those living with cancer.

The foundation was established by Sam’s sister and former Secret Life of Us star, Connie, who died of breast cancer two years ago, Daily Mail Australia reports.

But fans couldn’t believe the result with many declaring drag artist Courtney Act was “robbed” of the trophy after being consistently “on top of her game through the whole series”.

“Hello 000? I’d like to report a robbery. Courtney Act. Had a mirrorball trophy stolen,” one person wrote.

Another incredulous fan tweeted: “HOW THE HELL DID COURTNEY ACT LOSE DANCING WITH THE STARS???”

Others called the result “absurd” and said Australia should be “ashamed”.

Courtney, 37, secured the highest score of the 2019 season with partner Joshau Keefe for their second dance in the finale episode.

Mummy blogger Constance Hall and professional dancer Gustavo Viglio took third place.
