Princess Margaret continues to be one of the most intriguing members of the royal family, with her rebellious and carefree attitude towards the monarchy.
Margaret’s private life is about to be explored in a new BBC documentary that is promising to deliver an ‘intimate portrait of the rebellious princess.’
BBC claims the new series will be a ‘compelling profile of a woman whose life and loves reflected the social and sexual revolution that transformed Britain’s during the 20th century,’ adding, ‘this deeply personal account reveals how Princess Margaret’s character combined the rebellious force of modernity and a deep respect for tradition.’
According to the Telegraph, the two-part BBC documentary will feature commentary on Margaret’s life from childhood friend and lady-in-waiting Lady Anne Glenconner as well as Basil Charles, the former owner of Basil’s Bar on Mustique, the island in the Caribbean where Margaret spent her holidays.
‘She was a trailblazer, she was a little bit of a rebel. She wanted to have the [royal] life but she also wanted to have a normal life,’ Charles reportedly says in the series.
Craig Brown, the author of the biography Ninety-Nine Glimpses of Princess Margaret also appears in the program.
A premiere date for the series has yet to be announced.
Interest peaked for the Queen’s late sister following The Crown’s portrayal of her early years.
Season 3 of the hit Netflix series will see Margaret played by Helena Bonham Carter, and will cover the years from 1964 to 1976, and will include the end of Princess Margaret’s tumultuous marriage to Antony Armstrong-Jones.
