But for hard-working Anne, 73, the holiday couldn’t come at a worse time for the royal family, when they desperately need all hands on deck.
“Anne’s doing her best to keep her frustrations to herself,” a royal insider tells New Idea.
“It’s not the time to start causing more problems when the palace is in such peril, but it’s not easy when she has more than stepped up with her duties and Camilla’s checked out.”
With Anne taking on nine royal engagements in just one week with no complaints, she has high standards when it comes to her expectations of fellow royals’ service.
“Anne’s always been a team player and put duty first, but the one thing she’s constantly reminded of is that not everyone’s the same,” the source continues.
“It’s quite unbelievable to her that Camilla needs a ‘break’ after just a dozen or so engagements.
“If it was to play nursemaid to Charles, that would be entirely acceptable, but to disappear in order to ‘get some sun’ seems the height of frippery for someone like Anne.”
It’s common knowledge that Anne has never warmed to Camilla, despite having known her for decades – even before King Charles met her!
Anne apparently felt strongly that Camilla should be known as Queen Consort, and not Queen, and she gave something of a backhanded compliment last year when she said of Camilla’s crown, “This role is not something that she would have been a natural for, but she does it really well.”
But while diplomatic, Anne knows better than to ruffle feathers unnecessarily, privately, she’s questioning whether Camilla is truly capable of the demanding role as head of the British monarchy.
“Anne has spent her life backing up her big brother, so the deep worry is whether or not Camilla’s up for the task,” explains the insider.
“Whether it be making him a cup of tea or attending events on his behalf, unless the Queen has no illnesses of her own, she has one job: support the King.
“She’s just hoping that Camilla will return firing on all cylinders in time for Commonwealth Day.”
