One month on from his son revealing that he was “cancer free”, John Farnham has released a statement of his own to confirm the happy news.

“I’m the luckiest man I know right now. It’s been a year since my first surgery and to be honest I’ve lost count as to how many other procedures there’s been since then. I’m sure someone’s kept track of them all – let’s just say there’s been a few,” he penned.

“But I’m home now and I’m a very grateful and happy man. It’s only now that I can start to appreciate and comprehend, for myself, how many messages of love and support have been sent to me over the past year. I don’t know what to say, other than thank you so very much. It honestly means the world to me.

“Today is a special day. And I’m going to mark it by having a pizza – because I can! I can’t wait to see what might be on the menu. Bring on 2024.” 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 🍕🍕🍕

A month prior, John’s son Robert shared that his father had been feeling so well that he has started singing again, and was even “tap dancing.”

Appearing with John’s longtime friend Gaynor Wheatley on Sunrise the morning of the free-to-air premiere of the critically acclaimed documentary John Farnham: Finding The Voice, Robert made the exciting revelation.

“He’s doing fantastic. Just the other day he was, you know, walking around with his cane and doing a little bit of a dance, which was pretty fabulous,” Robert said.

Robert then added that whilst cancer was a “terrible, terrible thing,” the entire family was thrilled that John’s journey down that road was over.

“He’s doing great, he’s very funny again. You know, cancer’s a brutal thing and it was his time to walk that path.”

“But he’s cancer free and he is tap dancing his way….”

“And the support of everyone in Australia was huge.”

After being hospitalised with a chest infection in March, John’s loved ones revealed that the singer had made a “full recovery” in early May.

“We’re pleased to say that John made a full recovery from a recent chest infection in late March which required hospitalisation. He is now comfortable and continues to receive ongoing treatment and rehabilitation care,” his devoted wife, and loving sons Rob and James wrote.

“The family would like to re-iterate their appreciation and deepest respect for all the medical staff that has attended to John over the past eight months and the many thousands of kind messages that (have) been received from across Australia and the world.”

Just days later, John’s sons Robert and James made a shock appearance on Sunrise, referring to their dad as a “fighter.”

“It’s a fairly long road, as cancer is, but he is doing well and we get to spend a lot of time with him and his spirits are up so that is all we can ask for,” Robert said.

“We are just proud of him…he’s definitely a fighter.”

“Cancer is a horrible thing but he’s got great support – the hospitals have been amazing, the staff are amazing, and shout out to those guys.

“It’s all about remaining focused and uplifting yourself…He (inspires) us.”

The surgery, which was carried out by 26 medical staff, also saw a major part of the You’re The Voice singer’s jaw removed, leading to doubts that he would ever perform again and a long stretch of time recovering in a rehabilitation facility.

After the surgery Jill released a heartfelt statement thanking the hospital staff for their incredible work and expressing gratitude to the countless fans that offered their support.

“We are genuinely overwhelmed by the incredible wave of support, love and messages we have received today from so many people around Australia. This means so much to us as a family. Thank you to everyone for this. John will be blown away,” she said.

“We are in awe of the incredible teams of health care professionals who have guided us through this very challenging time with such compassion. All of you undertook this big job today and have given us a magnificent outcome. To all the surgeons, doctors, nurses and consultants — thank you one and all so very much.”

Announcing his shock cancer diagnosis just days prior to his surgery, John lifted the lid on his condition.

“Cancer diagnosis is something that so many people face every single day, and countless others have walked this path before me,” John wrote.

“The one thing I know for sure is that we have the very best specialist healthcare professionals in Victoria, and we can all be grateful for that. I know I am.”
