Michael Schumacher’s son, Mick Schumacher, has won the Formula 3 European on Saturday- 28 years after his father achieved the same feat.
The 19-year-old, who finished second place in the day’s second race in Hockenheim, Germany, with a race to spare, secured his win in his first junior championship as his proud mother watched on.
Corinna Schumacher was seen beaming after her son’s win, which saw his unassailable 347 points qualify him to race in the Formula One races next season.
Mick said, “It’s a slightly unreal feeling. I’m absolutely delighted.
“I still can’t quite believe it.”
Michael Schumacher suffered a major head injury while skiing in the French Alps and was put in a medically induced coma after undergoing two life-saving operations at Grenoble Hospital in France.
The legendary racer was taken out of his coma in 2014 and has not been seen in public, remaining closely guarded at the family’s home in Switzerland.
In an interview with the BBC earlier this year Mick Schumacher had said his father was a huge influence on him.
Speaking to the BBC he said: “He’s my idol and I’m following everything he did and trying to look at something I could use myself.”
