Loyal fans of axed series, The Footy Show, have taken to Twitter to rage against Channel Nine’s decision to give Erin Molan a huge new contract.
Molan took the reigns of NRL program this year, after 24 previous seasons with Paul Vautin at the helm, with the show immediately struggling to maintain its audience.
The announcement of Molan’s new contract sparked fans to vent to social media, expressing outrage she was signed to a new deal.
Following fans brutal attack on Molan, former Australian netball captain Liz Ellis launched a passionate attack of the television host.
Ellis claimed the anger directed at Molan was because she was a woman attempting to replace Paul ‘Fatty’ Vautin as host of one of the longest running shows in rugby league.
“Anyone taking over from Fatty Vautin was always going to be on a hiding to nothing; he was synonymous with the show and is well loved because of it,” Ellis wrote on Nine Honey.

“So whoever the new host was, male or female, they would have come under fire when the show got axed.
“But the commentary about Erin has been incredibly personal, including attacking her for going on maternity leave, so it leaves you no choice but to think this is about her being a woman and daring to take on The Footy Show.
“I thought things had changed, but maybe they haven’t.”
