Kath and Kim actor Glenn Robbins has shut down rumours that the iconic Aussie comedy series will ever return, nine months on from the two-part reunion special.

The great hunk of spunk – who portrayed Kath’s love interest Kel Knight in the global hit – made the confession during an interview with Melbourne radio station 3AW, breaking the hearts of fans across the world in the process.

“Of course, I worked with the great girls of Kath and Kim [Jane Turner and Gina Riley] who are absolutely phenomenal,” Glenn said before providing a life update on where his former castmates had landed.

“Gina has officially returned. She will never work again. Jane lives in Italy, and so we had our time together.”

“I love the great minds I get to work with.”

The first season premiered to critical comedic acclaim in 2002 on ABC and aired across three seasons until 2004, before returning with the telemovie Da Kath and Kim Code in 2005.

Channel Seven then picked up the series for a fourth and final season in 2007, with a feature-length film – Kath & Kimderella – then commissioned for a September 2012 release.

After the film was released, Gina and Jane kept low profiles for close to a decade, preferring to appear on stage and in smaller television roles, rarely attending A-list events.

Gina, who is married with one adult child, admits that having a quieter existence is a completely deliberate move.

“As I get older, I really don’t want to be a public person, which sounds ridiculous with what I do,” she said.

Whilst the two-part reunion special (Kath and Kim: Our Effluent Life and Kath and Kim: 20 Preposterous Years) that aired in November 2022 was the bee’s knees for fans, with a few minutes of brand new footage and cleverly cut-together clips of the best moments from the show, fans had a feeling in their waters that Kath and Kim would not end there.

Unfortunately, this feeling has been proved incorrect thanks to Glenn’s comments, which have sadly confirmed that we will not be seeing our favourite foxy ladies returning to our screens ever again – cue the devastation.

But not to worry, lock yourself in for a sticky date with Netflix or 7Plus to rewatch full episodes!
