The reports about Duchess Catherine and Meghan Markle having a run in last Christmas has made huge headlines.

But it appears the silly season left Kate Middleton in tears years prior.

According to a royal book, Christmas was canceled by Prince William.

“The Making of a Royal Romance” by Katie Nicholl, the royal expert shares that Kate was “tearful” after William let her down over the festive season 12 years ago.

In the Christmas of 2006, the prince canned his plans with his girlfriend, “At the last minute William had a change of heart and decided to stay with his own family instead.”

Apparently Wills “informed a tearful Kate during a late-night conversation on Boxing Day” of the change of plans.

While it was “no big deal” for the royal, for Kate the cancellation was “a sign of something more sinister to come”.

“She [Kate] had good reason to be concerned.”

“William had been having second thoughts and sat down with his father and his grandmother to have a frank discussion about his future with Kate. Both advised him not to hurry into anything.”

But it all worked out.

In 2010 Wills popped the question before they married at Westminster Abbey in 2011, and have since gone on to enjoy a very happy marriage.

Now, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte  and Prince Louis.
