With 2025 firmly in our sights, many of us have already found ourselves with a long laundry list of things we want to accomplish, But, if there’s one habit that most of us should be prioritising in the new year, it’s consuming more protein. From keeping us full and energised to support lean muscle gain, it’s one small addition to our daily routines that can have a major positive domino effect.

That said, getting enough of the good stuff can be a challenge.

According to Dietitians Australia, it’s recommended that the average person consumes 0.75g of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. For women, this is about 45g while for men, this is around 55g. While chugging protein shakes and eating scrambled eggs and chicken breast are great ways to meet those targets, it’s safe to say not everyone has the stomach for it.

The good news is there’s a shortcut you can rely on this summer that’s quick, easy and actually delicious

Enter, Yoplait’s new Protein Yoghurt. With 25 per cent less sugar than its regular range and a whopping 13g of protein per serve, the Woolworths exclusive will help you say goodbye to your mid-afternoon slump.

What are the health benefits of Yoplait’s protein yoghurt?

When most people think of protein yoghurts, they tend to picture traditional Greek yoghurt. Containing around 20g of protein per serving, it’s an efficient way to up your protein intake in the mornings.

The only problem? Not everyone likes the sour taste and thick consistency of Greek yoghurt.

Available in two tasty flavours – classic vanilla and strawberry – Yoplait’s version takes the health benefits of protein-rich Greek yoghurt, and turns it into a breakfast (or snack) you can actually look forward to. With less sugar than Yoplait’s regular yoghurt, reduced fat and plenty of calcium and probiotics, it’s a light meal that will fuel you through work, the gym and beyond.

How do Yoplait Protein yoghurts compare to Chobani?

Chobani Fit Vanilla ($7 for 680g tub) offers 15g of protein per serve, coming in at $1.03 per serve. Meanwhile, Yoplait Protein Yoghurt ($4.50 per 600g tub) has 2g less protein per serving but at a slightly better price point of 75c per serving

One difference between the two is that Chobani Fit is a lactose-free Greek yoghurt, making it perfect for vegans or those who are lactose intolerant. So while Chobani Fit may be the best pick for those hoping to stay away from lactose products, Yoplait offers better bang for your buck overall.

Can these protein yoghurts replace breakfast?

In a way, yes. However, you might find that on its own, any protein yoghurt isn’t enough to keep you full until lunchtime. It’s a good idea to top it up with fruits (there are plenty of delicious varieties in season) and nuts to make it more filling.

Another smart option is to combine your high-protein yoghurt with a powder to make a shake or use it as a topping on some protein pancakes. For meal preppers, you can stir a serving into your overnight oats to enjoy a hearty and fibre-filled breakfast the next morning. And, of course, you can always keep it simple with a cereal or muesli bowl that’s perfect for the summer months.
