Whatever it takes to “break the internet” Kim Kardashian’s definitely got it, with her bodacious booty smashing social media records for Paper magazine in 2014. With a net worth of some $350 million and several businesses under her name, she’s come a long way from that sex tape with Ray J.
The real question is: How does she keep up the looks to break the internet in the first place? Today she’s 38 years old and has given birth to two kids—a pair of figures that would result in a less-than-flattering figure for the vast majority of us lesser mortals—yet she retains her incredible body!
They say that healthy weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise, so let’s zero in on Kim’s diet plan and see if we can’t get some insight.
A big part of Kim’s weight loss is her trainer, Instagram fitness personality Melissa “@Fitgurlmel” Alcantara, who Kim has been working with since 2016.
In an interview with People Magazine, Alcantara said, “I want her to eat real food that’s cooked every day”, meaning no processed foods, no flavouring-filled salad dressing, and nothing that comes out of a can or in a box. No diet pills here, too!
Alcantara was also seen on Keeping Up With The Kardashians cleaning out Kim’s kitchen, removing anything that looked even remotely processed, such as rice crispies.
With all that crap out of the way, all that’s left are clean, fresh foods with little oil. The next step is a diet that is a variant on the ketogenic weight loss diet and the Atkins diet, allowing Kim to eat healthy, filling servings of good fats while reducing her carb intake.
Kim’s diet works on the principle of reducing her body’s production of high-energy glucose. Carbohydrates, especially simple carbs like sugar, are rapidly synthesized into glucose and used for energy, leaving the body’s fat reserves untouched. With her low-carb diet, her body is forced to burn her fat reserves, resulting in a trimmer figure and overall weight loss.
What Kim Kardashian Actually Eats
That’s all well and good, but exactly what does Kim Kardashian eat as part of her diet?
Kim’s breakfast consists of blueberry oatmeal pancakes. Oatmeal is high in fibre, which is a well-known component of weight loss in almost any diet.
Her lunch features a healthy mix of protein and carbohydrates, featuring lots of chicken, vegetables, and sweet potato.
For dinner, she adds the healthy fats that are an essential part of many keto-like diets. She eats fish, which is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, and even more vegetables.
What Her Diet Has Done?
In April 2017, Kim went to Mexico with her sister Kourtney for the latter’s birthday celebration, during which several unflattering photos were uploaded to social media and she received quite a little bit of body shaming. This led to her taking up a strict diet and exercise regimen with Melissa and her nutrition team.
The result? She lost 20 pounds, and now she’s in better shape than ever.
Should You Try Her Diet?
Is Kim’s diet safe? Dietician Abby Langer says that keto and other similar diets have a lot of myths and misconceptions about it, and any claims about it curing cancer or treating depression should be disavowed until further research is done. However, it’s still a good way to quickly lose weight in a relatively healthy way.
Kim’s sister Khloe Kardashian’s diet is also somewhat low-carb and keto-like, and it helped her lose weight after motherhood. Kourtney Kardashian’s diet used to have an even stricter, dairy-free diet, but has since relaxed it to a more keto-like setup. All three sisters are paragons of fitness, and their diets certainly played a big part in that!
Of course, while the 80-20 rule for weight loss that we mentioned earlier does apply in many cases, that 20% for exercise is still a good portion of your journey. Kim and Melissa know this, which is why Kim works out an hour and a half every day, doing a mix of weight training and high-intensity interval training (HIIT), with some low-intensity training added on.
