Constance Hall’s Big Brother Stint And Her Rise To Success

Constance Hall’s life, from Big Brother to Dancing With The Stars.

One of the most controversial contestants in Big Brother Australia’s history was Constance Hall, who was the very first one to get booted from the fifth season of the show. With her loudmouthed, outspoken personality, she garnered plenty of detractors, but perhaps just as many fans.

Since her brief stint on the show, Constance has become a mom blogger with a huge social media following, Dancing With The Stars contestant, and very much a feminist.

Let’s track Constance Hall’s time in the Big Brother limelight, and where she is today.

Big Brother Australia 2005

In May 2005, the fifth season of Big Brother Australia aired, billing itself with the tagline of “single, sexy, and competitive.” The show’s contestants didn’t send in taped auditions but rather were selected from interviews that took place at big cities all over the country; everywhere from Sydney, to Melbourne, to Adelaide, to Perth.

“Single and sexy” were especially important parts of the Big Brother equation, as contestants had to be single and ready to get naughty during the 101-day season.

Constance was brought in as one of the contestants from Perth. Then a 21-year-old apprentice hairdresser, she immediately captivated audiences with her personality, which featured a lot of frankness and near-alcoholic tendencies.

Leaving The House

Constance certainly fit the bill in the “sexy” department, but unfortunately missed the memo when it came to “single”—she’d lied about having a partner at the time of the show, which didn’t jive with the need for the housemates to be able to have sex.

As a result, she was put up for eviction on day 10 of the season.

With a full minute to tell Big Brother why she should be kept on the show, she said that the reason why she lied was that she really wanted to be on the show, but she couldn’t help having fallen in love with someone.

And of course, she couldn’t help slipping in a little note about what her eviction meant for the show: “I think without me the house might just become a little bit too nice and everyone might become a little bit too boring.”

Her pleas failed and the public voted her out, ending the time of Constance Hall on Big Brother.

She’d go back home to her job and return to her boyfriend, whom she’d actually break up with some time later.

The Real Reason For Her Departure

That wasn’t the end of Constance Hall—not by a long shot. She would explode in popularity as a mom blogger in 2016 thanks to her post about ‘parent sex’, describing it as “that 3.5 minutes you get in between changing nappies and making food,” among other short moments of freedom from her duties to her baby, echoing the sexual frustrations of millions of mothers around the world.

Prior to that post, she had just a few thousand followers. Today, Constance Hall’s blog, The Not So Secret Life Of Us, her Instagram, Facebook, and all her social media gives her over a million combined followers today. She writes about sexist remarks, feminism, motherhood, and the various struggles she goes through every day.

Launching off her renewed popularity, she would use her blog as a platform to reflect on her time on Big Brother 11-years prior.

“While I thought being a loud mouth swearing binge drinking realist was exactly what every big brother voter wanted I was sadly mistaken,” she wrote on January 8.

“My time was brought to an end in a record-breaking 10 days and interestingly while I thought I totally killed it in the house the shows publicists advice was limited to ‘don’t worry, they’ll all forget who you are soon, just lay low.’”

“Well people did forget and I went back to washing hair as an apprentice hairdresser with bad hair for a living..”

Perhaps reality TV wasn’t ready for someone like Constance back in 2005, but in today’s landscape, which benefits the vulgar and realistic persona, she would fit right in.

The Hall Of Fame

People might have forgotten her name back then, almost a decade and a half ago, but they certainly remember Constance Hall today.

Constance Hall’s book career has been a massive success. Like a Queen is her hilarious yet empowering “ultimate Queen’s bible” which moved over 150,000 copies, and Still a Queen is another memoir that updates things with her new life and experiences.

She runs a fashion line, the Raffaella Collection, which has its outfits flying off the virtual shelves of her online store.

And just last April, she made it to the third spot on Dancing with the Stars.

Now a mother of seven, living with her loving husband Denim, her future definitely looks bright.
