The ONE beauty buy under $15 for better skin by Christmas

Skip the salon and incorporate ancient wisdom into your beauty routine with a tech-free tool.

While there are a lot of snazzy gadgets in the beauty world, there is one inexpensive tech-free tool every woman over the age of 45 needs to have in her beauty draw and it’s the face roller.

In her book Making It Up, Makeup Minus the Rules (New Holland Publishers Australia, $49.99), M.A.C Global Senior Makeup Artist Nicole “Pinky” Thompson admits she was unsure when she first saw a face roller in action but is now a huge fan.

“Honestly, my favourite addition to my makeup kits over the last few years has been the face roller.

“I remember when these were first seen gliding over cheekbones backstage and they seemed like a strange gimmick but before long they had everyone’s attention.

“This extension of your facial massage is where you will see the most dramatic results, fighting off puffiness when rolled upwards and over cheekbones, jawlines and temples.”

Knowing how to use it is the key to making the most out of this low-tech tool.

It should be used in conjunction with a serum so first apply your serum or facial oil to a clean dry face and then use the roller up, down and all across your skin until the product is fully absorbed.

Rolling the tool over your face increases blood circulation and lymphatic flow which reduces swelling. It’s cooling and lifting and stimulates circulation and, as a bonus, it lowers cortisol levels, our body’s chief stress hormone.

Glide over face, neck and décolletage to help eliminate toxins and reduce end—of-day puffiness.
