Single Wives star Nikki: Yes, Matthew changed my life

Nikki will never stop grieving over the loss of her husband, Daniel.

Nikki Mitropoulos thought she had found her happy ever after, but it was tragically taken away from her when her husband, Daniel, was killed in a motorbike accident in 2008.

‘It’s like your life is headed somewhere and then suddenly you don’t have it anymore,’ Nikki tells New Idea.

The road to finding love again hasn’t been easy for Nikki.

After coming out of a tough relationship, she turned to The Single Wives dating coach Matthew Hussey to help her.

‘He changed my world in a very small moment,’ she says. ‘He saw through all my bulls*** and called me out on it.’

Nikki has come a long way since her husband’s death, but she still remembers it like it was yesterday.

Daniel was hit by a drug-intoxicated driver and was in hospital for six days before his family had to switch off his life support.

‘I honestly thought I’d never be the same again,’ she says. ‘If it wasn’t for my family and friends I don’t know where I would be right now.’

Just days later, Nikki went into premature labour and welcomed their son, Daniel – named after his father.

‘It was so conflicting, I was so happy to meet him, but I felt guilty for being happy,’ she shares.

But, Nikki ensures that her son knows all about his father.

‘On all the anniversaries we tell my son stories about him.’
