In a shock twist of events it has been revealed that Princess Diana was supposed to marry Prince Andrew instead of Prince Charles.
In Amazon Prime’s documentary The Diana Story the Spencer family’s housekeeper Betty Andrews reveals: “We thought she would be with Prince Andrew.”
Prince Andrew was much closer in age to Princess Diana and was known for his “dashing good looks” which was said to infuriate Charles.
That said Betty also noted: “She [Diana] never said what she wanted to do.”
Yet Diana’s marriage to Charles went ahead and Diana was married at the tender age of 20 when Charles was 32 years of age.
Diana first met Charles when she was 16 years of age when he was dating her elder sister Sarah Spencer at the time.
Sadly, Diana’s marriage to Charles was fraught with challenges, and both parties went onto have affairs in the early part of their relationship.
“When I was 24 or 25 I was deeply in love with someone who worked in this environment [security],” Diana confessed referring to what is thought to be her bodyguard Barry Manakee.
The princess went on to have several relationships and Charles had a secret affair with his true love and now wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, who he dated before he married Diana.
After two children and 15 years of marriage they finally divorced in 1996.
