Princess Beatrice is finally engaged to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi – but it reportedly took four months to make it happen.
HELLO! revealed that Beatrice’s fiancé consulted British Jeweller Shaun Leane on the design of Princess Beatrice’s engagement ring four months ago.
“The actual ring is handcrafted, so the whole process has been about three to four months, from Edoardo coming in to see me. We talked about the design and shared thoughts and elements to put into it to make it personal. I would say the design took about two months, less than that, maybe six weeks and then the crafting of the ring has been about eight to ten weeks,” said the Mayfair atelier, who worked for Alexander McQueen for 20 years.
According to the publication, the diamond ring was hand-cast in platinum in his Mayfair workshop.
The central stone is 2.5 carat with two baguettes either side, ¾ of a carat each.
“I am so honoured Edoardo chose to work with me to design the engagement ring for Princess Beatrice and to have been involved in this special moment in their lives,” added Leane, who has created jewellery for Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle.
“He’s very romantic and very considered and very thoughtful,” he said of the property tycoon.
“I’m an artist and to work with someone like Edoardo who is really passionate about ascetic and romance, it fuels me and my drive and my passion too.”

According to Leane, Edoardo was heavily involved in crafting the unique ring.
“Edo was very prepared and he had done his research. He had a very strong feeling about what he wanted,” said Leane, adding that his love of Art deco designs influenced the design.
“He knew that he wanted a round stone, and he knew he wanted platinum. We talked about aesthetic and he said, ‘I really love Art Deco, and Beatrice really likes a Victorian aesthetic in jewellery.’ We talked about fusing the two together and he thought it would be lovely to do that, to fuse their two personalities together within the ring. There was a real unity.”
Leane said the diamond engagement ring was crafted over five to six meetings adding that the property tycoon “came with thoughts and then I would relay those thoughts into sketches.”
“He personally chose the stones. The ring was crafted upstairs with my goldsmiths. With our bespoke service, we document every single stage of the ring so throughout the whole process I would mail Edo the pictures of the ring — there was a constant communication.”
The 34-year old proposed to the daughter of Prince Andrew in Italy earlier this month.
Through the Royal Family Instagram account, the couple shared a series of engagement photos (taken by Beatrice’s sister Princess Eugenie) with their arms wrapped around each other, looking more in love than ever, to announce to the world that the royal wedding will be held in 2020.
“The Duke and Duchess of York are delighted to announce the engagement of Princess Beatrice to Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi,” the royal family Instagram account read, adding that wedding would be held next year.

Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi said: “We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement. Princess Eugenie – who married and Beatrice’s mother Sarah Ferguson also congratulated her the bride-to-be in an Instagram post.
