Lisa Wilkinson breaks silence on Carrie Bickmore scandal

Ahead of the pair's big co-hosting debut.

Lisa Wilkinson has finally addressed the rumours a feud is boiling between herself and fellow co-host on The Project, Carrie Bickmore.

Since Channel 10 announced the news that Wilkinson would be joining The Project, alongside existing hosts – Carrie Bickmore, Waleed Aly and Peter Helliar – reports surfaced that Bickmore was ‘pissed off’ by the new hosts hefty paycheck.

The 58-year-old former Today host reportedly signed a $2.3 million salary, a whopping increase from Bickmore’s $500,000 salary.

In an interview with news.com.au, Wilkinson claims rumours of a feud are ‘complete fiction.’

I couldn’t believe [there were rumours] because this is complete fiction. Carrie can’t believe it, I can’t believe it,’ Wilkinson told. ‘We refuse to engage in it, because it would only give it credibility and there is no truth to it. Carrie and I have been mates for years.’

‘We have a lot of close friends in common as well and for all of us it’s really disappointing that for some reason there’s a belief … that two strong women can’t work together and support each other and enjoy working together,’ the host further added.

Meanwhile, Carrie has previously supported Wilkinson but has not specifically addressed the rumours.

Nine’s loss is our gain here at Network Ten,’ Bickmore claimed on The Project last year. ‘An incredible woman — smart, funny, down to earth. We couldn’t be more excited.’

In October, Bickmore posted a photograph of the two together, writing: ‘Congrats on an incredible stint at Today babe. Hope you enjoyed your sleep in … and can’t wait to see your beaming face on @theprojecttv soon.’
