Karl looks tense as he returns to Australia with new wife Jasmine

Former TODAY host Karl Stefanovic has returned home to Australia after being axed by Nine while on his honeymoon with new wife Jasmine Yarbrough in Aspen, Colorado. 

The 44-year-old looked tense as he wheeled his luggage through Sydney Airport on Dec. 21. alongside Jasmine. 

But, as Karl took notice of incoming photographers his demeanour quickly changed to project an unfazed smile.

Karl was casually dressed in a black t-shirt and jeans. 

Jasmine wore minimal makeup for the long journey home and swept her blonde hair back into a bun. 

She wore a plain grey jumper and leather pants.

In an official network statement announcing his departure from TODAY on Dec. 19., Karl said: “For the last 14 years I’ve co-hosted the best show on television. I can’t thank Nine enough for the opportunity.

“I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be good enough to host this grand show for so long.

“Thanks to our viewers mostly, you are what matters most. It’s been a tough time. Thanks for hanging in there. I look forward to seeing you in another capacity at this great network soon.”

Just one day before Karl’s axing was announced, Nine confirmed Peter Stefanovic was walking away from the network to “explore new opportunities.” 

A Nine spokesman confirmed Stefanovic was leaving the network after 15 years with an official statement. 

“Nine and reporter Peter Stefanovic have mutually decided to part ways after 15 years,” the statement read.

“Peter has decided to explore new opportunities and is looking forward to spending weekends with his wife.

“He has been a respected member of the Nine News team and Weekend Today, and we wish him all the best for the future.”

In a statement, the young brother of Karl Stefanovic said he had “an amazing time at Nine being a foreign correspondent, news reporter and covering some amazing stories for 60 Minutes.” 

“I’ll miss my friends at Nine very much, it has been a huge privilege to work alongside so many great people,” he added.
