In an explosive radio interview, Karl Stefanovic accused Richard Wilkins of being a ‘bad man’ at his wedding in December last year.

The former Today host spoke to Melbourne’s KIIS 101.1 about his Mexico wedding with Jasmine Yarbrough and how he is the perfect host for This Time Next Year.

In a round of “Yay or Nay” with Jason Hawkins and Polly ‘PJ’ Harding, Karl got to talking about his destination wedding with Jasmine – who he met in 2016 following his divorce from Cassandra Thorburn.

The 44-year-old tried to keep the guest list as small as possible and said that 320 were cut from the original list, leaving 160 people to attend the event.

“You only get the people you want,” Karl said, praising the idea of having a destination wedding.

The Channel 9 host also pointed out that it was cheaper to have a wedding in Mexico, especially in terms of alcohol.

“Aussies get on it and the Coronas are much cheaper than Australia,” he said.

Jason went on to ask Karl who seemed to be the most inebriated at his wedding, factoring in his media savvy guestlist – which included Sylvia Jeffreys, Richard and Christian Wilkins, and Tim Gilbert.

“Out of everyone we know in the media, who was the one at your wedding that was like ‘come on mate’?” asked Jason.

“Richard Wilkins. He was just a bad man. He took it back to the eighties and left his eyes there,” Karl responded lightheartedly.

Karl also discussed the upcoming season of This Time Next Year and said it would be full of surprises.

“Some of the things people do are quite incredible,” he said, adding, “it’s the ones who you don’t think are gonna come back [that] come back.”

The feelgood show sees people from across Australia changing their lives forever, including finding love, achieving world records and reuniting with relatives.

The host also said even he didn’t know what to expect from the upcoming season and that he was “nervous for what’s going to happen when the doors open.”

“I don’t know what will happen at the start and I don’t know the end.”

The TV host also opened up about how his tough time – following his dismissal from the Today show – helped him to have the empathy and emotional depth needed to host This Time Next Year.

“Because of what I’ve been through over the last couple of years, I’m able to interact and really listen to people better than I ever did before,” Karl said.

“It’s made me more empathetic and I’m more present. I listen. I’m much more in touch with other people’s emotions than I was before,” the father-of-three added.

Karl will sit down with Australians facing immense personal battles, such as cancer.

And after going through his own personal struggles last year, Karl might be the perfect person to host the comeback-driven series.

“I dive into their lives really quickly and I do feel part of it.”
