Radio host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson has spoken out publicly about her split from husband Lee Henderson after 18 years together.
“Obviously Lee and I have decided to separate, which you know already Kyle.
“It’s not a decision we took lightly. I think Lee and I have been so lucky that our separation has been extremely amicable.”
Jackie went onto explain that she has remained ‘really good friends’ with Lee throughout their split, talking on the phone everyday and hanging out as a family.
Although the announcement of their split came as a shock to fans, it is something that has been a long time coming.
“It’s not something that happened overnight for us,” she said. “It’s been a long time. We’ve been separated for a long time. We’re just lucky that we were able to do it in private.”
Jackie said that they wanted to keep their separation as private as possible for the sake of their daughter, Kitty.
“I feel lucky that we got through that period privately. Our priority is always Kitty – we want her to be a part of a loving family.”
An emotional Kyle sympathised: “As someone from a broken home, it’s a difficult life to have.”
“We were so adamant that we didn’t want that to be us,” Jackie continued. “Look I’ve always been upfront about our marriage.
“We’ve been together for 18 years. We had a beautiful marriage and we’ve had great memories. No marriage is perfect.”
Jackie has always been candid about her marriage troubles, especially so in a segment from her radio show back in 2014.
She told co-host Kyle that her and Lee once “went through a period where [they] just couldn’t get it together” and were “constantly fighting”.
She continued, “We just couldn’t get back on track. We would fight non stop [about] nothing. We were completely out of sync and frustrated with each other.”
The Kyle and Jackie O Show host announced the split in a statement this morning.
Jackie and Lee met in 2000, when Jackie was 25-years-old and spotted Lee at a bar in Sydney.
The couple wed in 2003.
