His much-loved alter-ego Robbie Hunter may have left our favourite seaside town with his soulmate Tasha (Isabel Lucas) many moons ago. But 13 years on, Jason Smith remains one of the show’s most memorable stars.
“It actually feels like yesterday,” says 35-year-old Jason, who has since written for the hit series, as well as appearing in other roles on TV and radio while also working extensively as a TV producer.

And now the affable actor is back in the Bay once more – this time as host of the show’s exciting new podcast.
Best of all, Jason is loving every moment of chatting about all things Home and Away with key members of the cast and crew – everyone from Georgie Parker to Lynne McGranger, Lukas Radovich, Courtney Miller and Home and Away series producer Lucy Addario.
“It gives such an insight into, and lifts the lid on, the making of Home and Away,” he says.
“We talk about the creative process for the actors on the shows and hear their stories, he adds.
“We do cover a lot of ground, which is very exciting. It’s really a VIP access-all-areas pass to the show.”
Meanwhile, Jason feels only gratitude for his action-packed time in the Bay.
“Home and Away is the most amazing training ground for young actors. What you learn on that show, you can’t find anywhere in the world,” he says, adding with a smile, “and Icertainly had the gamut of storylines!
“Robbie and Tash’s journey was amazing – there was the cyclone storyline, they got married three times, Tash got kidnapped by a cult and so much more. But the thing I loved about playing Robbie was the fact that he was such a unique character. I really was blessed to play him.”
Would Jason consider getting back in front of the cameras?
“I’m always open to it – if the right role came up, absolutely,” he replies. “But I am really enjoying the behind-the-scenes work. All of the skills I learnt from Home and Away have come in so handy for everything I’ve been doing since I left the show.”
