Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – now the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – arrived at Sydney’s Hyde Park on Oct. 20 to unveil a war memorial 84 years in the making.

Meghan wore a black dress by New Zealand designer Emilia Wickstead for the occasion – which she paired with a Philip Treacy hat.

“So fitting that Meghan wears a New Zealand designer Emilia Wickstead to honour the Anzacs,” fashion expert Donny Galella told New Idea.

“Her elegant look was topped off with a chic pillbox style hat by the Queen’s Milliner.”

Harry, wearing the tropical dress of his regiment, the Blues and Royals, with medals, KCVO and sword, and Meghan were met by Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Premier of New South Wales Gladys Berejiklian and David Elliott, minister for veterans affairs, on an overcast Sydney morning.

The Anzac Memorial, which commemorates the sacrifices made by those who served for Australia and New Zealand, was initially designed in the 1930s by Bruce Dellitt.

But following the Great Depression, the finances were not available to make Mr Dellitt’s vision – which included a four-tier cascading waterfall on the Liverpool Street side of the monument – a reality.

There were crowds along Liverpool Street, while other people – and a cardboard cutout of Harry and Meghan – watched on from balconies as the royals arrived.

The Sussexes will visit the Hall Of Service, which contains 1,700 soil samples from each town, suburb and district in New South Wales listed as an address for First World War enlistees.

The completion of the extension, which cost £22 million, coincides with the 100th anniversary of the cessation of hostilities in the war.
