Em and Seb tie the knot in style!

Who is Emily Ratajkowski married to? Why, Sebastian Bear McClard of course! Emily, aged 27 and Sebastian, aged 32, got hitched in February last year, and in doing so they took us all by surprise. We knew the former Victoria’s Secret Angel and the director were dating, but we had no idea they were ready to take the next step. We recap their whirlwind relationship, their wedding day and their incredible honeymoon.

Emily is a successful model and actress who runs her own clothing business, Inamorata Woman. She shot to fame when she appeared in the uncensored music video clip for Robin Thicke’s controversial song ‘Blurred Lines‘. Sebastian is an award winning producer and actor who is a big Hollywood name. Ratajkowski was previously in a relationship with music producer Jeff Magid for three years, but neither her or Sebastian has been married before. Their relationship timeline involves a bit of guess work, because they kept so much private. They were first photographed getting affectionate in public in February 2018, but the couple had been friends longer than that. When Sebastian still had an Instagram account, we could see that Em had been liking his posts since February 2017.

Emily gave us some back story when she chatted to Busy Phillips on Busy Tonight. “We knew each other for a long time before, and he likes to joke, like, ‘Yeah, everyone thinks we got married quickly, but you vetted me for two years, so…’” Ratajkowski said. Emily definitely knew there was serious chemistry between her and Sebastian, telling Busy that she knew that she “probably shouldn’t hang out with that guy alone.”

Sebastian proposed at the Minetta Tavern. He didn’t have a ring ready to get down on one knee with, so he fashioned an emergency one out of a paperclip instead! 24 hours later, they were down to New York City Hall to make it official.

Emily Ratajkowski’s Wedding:

We had no idea that wedding bells were ringing in Emily and boyfriend Sebastian Bear-McClard’s future. Sure, we knew they were dating and seemed absolutely smitten with each other, but getting married? This one was totally out of the blue.

Emily and Sebastien had a courthouse ceremony in New York on 23 February 2018. We first got wind of the vows taking place when Em took to Instagram to announce that her and Seb were now husband and wife. Her fans couldn’t believe it, even going so far as to think it was a joke. Emily hit us with “Got married today” on her stories, and then followed it up with an official post. We were like …. did she just forget to tell us she was engaged? Stranger things have happened, UK actress Charlotte Riley forgot to tell her family that she’d be attending the Royal Wedding, so maybe Em had a similar mental blank? But no, turns out it was all part of the spontaneity of the day.

The Wedding Dress:

Ever ahead of the curve, Emily opted for a striking yellow Zara suit instead of a traditional white wedding dress. The pantsuit cost approximately $250 US at the time, and she toped this off with a wide brimmed black hat complete with classic fish-netting. The entire ceremony would not have cost more than $100 US at the most. Getting a marriage license in New York costs around $40 US, and then all you are required to do is have a licensed celebrant conduct the proceedings. Emily and Sebastian’s day was very anti-excess

We love a bride who bucks tradition. In fact, Emily’s choices were quite reminiscent of Bianca Jagger’s 1971 wedding to Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger.

We can’t believe Bianca was four-months pregnant with Jade Jagger when she rocked this white wedding suit. Emily and Sebastian’s wedding blindsided the media, and because it was so relatively low-key compared to other celebrity weddings, fans wondered if they had acted on impulse or if Emily was pregnant. A year later and there is no pitter-patter of little feet in Emily and Sebastian’s home, so we guess there goes that theory!

The Guests:

The number of guests in attendance was small. Social medial mogul The Fat Jew (Josh Ostrovsky) is a close friend of Sebastian’s and Em’s, so it was no surprise that he got an invite to the small ceremony. Director Josh Safdie was also there to celebrate the happy union. Sebastian has worked on films Heaven Knows What and Good Time, both of which were directed by Safdie, so it’s nice to see that they have work-life relationship.

Social Media Snaps:

Emily and Sebastian weren’t shy at all about posting footage and images on Instagram of their special day. They didn’t flood Emily’s feed, @emrata, with wedding shots (Sebastian doesn’t have an official Instagram), but they did elect to share a select number of shots with their fans – striking the perfect balance.

The Honeymoon:

What they saved on the ceremony, they definitely spent on the honeymoon – and honestly, we think this is the way forward. Get the legal stuff out of the way, and then go and enjoy a glamorous vacation. Emily and Sebastian spent their honeymoon at Amangiri, a luxury resort in Canyon Point, Utah, which will set you back $2500 US a night.

The Ring

Lordy Lordy, now that’s what you called one hell of a diamond! On the day of the wedding, the couple exchanged vows and simple gold wedding bands. They actually bought an ounce of gold in New York’s Chinatown, had it melted down and crafted the wedding rings themselves in a small shop which is so sentimental that we could cry – but little did we know that this stunning rock was also in the works. We’re looking at both a pear and a square cut diamond, set in white gold and a yellow gold band. “I love it,” said Ratajkowski, speaking to Vogue of her self-designed ring. “I can’t tell you how special it feels to me.”

With advice from Em’s friend Alison Chemla, the jewellery designer behind Alison Lou, the model and director designed the unique piece together, and it took over 50 sketches to get a result they were happy with. Funnily enough, Sebastian was well placed to be a part of the design process, because his current project was all about precious stones.  “Sebastian has been developing a movie, Uncut Gems, starring Adam Sandler, that centres around the diamond district, so he has a pretty amazing knowledge of stones and the industry” said Emily. “We liked the idea of two stones instead of one and spent a long time looking at rings with multiple stones for inspiration. At one point it included a ruby as the second stone, [but] ultimately we loved the idea of the femininity of the pear contrasted with the architecture of the princess.”

Business Insider estimates that the engagement ring itself could have cost anywhere between $50,000-$90,000

Where are they now?

The happy couple celebrated their one year anniversary in February this year, and seem just as happy and content as ever. Emily just blew our minds with her outfit at the 2019 Met Gala (peep the best and worst dressed here) , and Sebastian currently has two films in post-production. They continue to live together in their $2million LA home in the trendy suburb of Echo Park. We love their decor as much as we love their relationship.

We can’t wait to see more of what this young couple get up to during 2019. We just love love!
