They’ve spent years defending the state of their relationship and denying being on the brink of divorce, but behind closed doors Victoria and David Beckham’s marriage is thought to be crumbling. Insiders tell New Idea their six-year-old daughter Harper may get caught in the crossfire.
The latest wave of rumours and drama came to a dramatic head when a rogue email claimed David was having an affair with Harper’s teacher – and that the unnamed woman was now pregnant.
The power couple were quick to slam reports, with a spokesperson dramatically responding that the divorce rumours were a ‘crock of s***’.
The unnamed woman’s father even spoke out, slamming the report as ‘fake news’ in The Sun newspaper.
However outlandish the claim, the long-time lovebirds made every attempt to make it seem as though all is well in their 19-year marriage. Victoria posted a series of gushing Instagram posts to back up their united front, including a sweet photo with Harper, captioned: ‘We love and miss u @davidbeckham.’
Meanwhile, David quickly flew in to London from the US and was by his wife’s side as they attended the Kent & Curwen Men’s London Fashion Week show.
But while the pair were photographed together – and, afterwards, Victoria quickly Instagrammed a loving snap of them at the event in an obvious bid to silence the rumours – onlookers noticed the pair arrived and sat separately.
Sadly, the reason for that may now be becoming more clear. Behind the scenes, there’s speculation that the Beckham’s marriage is in trouble, with Victoria apparently telling friends, it has been ‘for years’.
‘They’ve made a pact that if they were to split they would wait until Harper is at least 11 years old and entering secondary school before going their separate ways. If they made that decision, and until then, they’ll continue to show the public they are together as a family,’ the insider tells New Idea.
At the moment it appears the couple seem to live mostly separate lives. Victoria, 44, will be based in London, while David, 43, spends most of his time in Miami.
Insiders say the pair have been rumoured to have had some meetings with lawyers to split assets and have even worked out a $1.4 billion post-nuptial agreement for the future.
But when it comes to telling their four beloved children, it seems the Beckhams are understandably struggling.
While their eldest son Brooklyn, 19, is said to be aware of the rumours, their three youngest children, Harper, Romeo, 15, and Cruz, 13, aren’t.
‘Brooklyn is the only one who knows and he’s been sworn to secrecy,’ explains the insider.
‘He’s holding out hope that his parents will stay together.’
The pair continue to give a public show of closeness perhaps because, despite the speculation, their marriage is strong and the latest rumours won’t affect that.
But, some still claim the couple’s relationship is on the rocks, and that the pair have decided that presenting a united front is their main priority.
‘It’s been common knowledge amongst their close family and friends for the last couple of years that things are not great, but they’ve both agreed that they’re going to continue putting on a united front for now, not only for the sake of their children, but for the sake of brand Beckham.’
