New study says THIS will happen to pregnant women if they eat bananas

Who knew?!

We’ve all heard the many pregnancy old wives’ tales – eating yams increases your chance of having twins, drinking lots of milk ups your odds of having a girl and knocking back piles of bananas means a boy could be on the way.But while there has been little scientific evidence to back up many of these theories, it seems there might be some merit to just one.

Researchers surveyed 740 women pregnant with their first child and found that those with a diet high in potassium – one of the main vitamin in bananas – were more likely to have a boy.

The same can be said for women who have a diet high in calories and salt.

The banana old wives tale has been circulating with decades, advising women to eat enormous amounts of bananas prior to conception to up your chances of having a boy. Those wanting a baby girl even told to AVOID the yellow fruit altogether, to reduce their chances of having a boy.

And while we all thought it was just crazy advice that’s been handed down for generations and generations, researcher Fiona Mathews – whose study was published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B – says otherwise. ‘The exciting thing is to try to work out which factors are the crucial ones and how they’re working to influence the gender of the infant,” she says.
