Fan Forced Oven: Top 10 Options & How to Use Them

What is a fan forced oven and how do they compare to conventional ovens?

A fan forced oven has become an essential for home cooks and chefs alike. The old argument of fan forced vs conventional is waning as many new ovens on the market can do it all and unlike a conventional oven with one heating element, fan forced results in much more even cooking and baking.

What is a fan forced oven?

Unlike a conventional oven with a single heating element, a fan forced oven has a heating element and a fan on the ovens back wall. The electric element heats up and the fan circulates the warm air through all the levels of the oven evenly. The main benefit of a fan forced oven is the even temperature distribution, which allows several dishes to be cooked at once with no need to rotate.

How to use a fan forced oven

Fan forced ovens are simple to use. If your oven has a fan forced function you will see a fan symbol, simply turn to that and set the temperature as per the recipe guidelines. A general rule of thumb is that fan forced temperatures are lower than conventional as the heat is better distributed and therefore doesn’t need to be as hot.
