Home and Away pays tribute to Ben Unwin

Former Home and Away star Ben Unwin tragically passed away on August 14, with a statement from New South Wales police confirming the tragic passing is not being treated as suspicious.

A police spokesperson told New Idea: “At midday [August 14], police attended Minyon Fall, Whian Whian, responding to a concern for welfare. ”

“The body of a 41-year-old man was located. The death has not been treated as suspicious.”

Since news of Ben’s death, cast, crew and the Channel Seven network have paid tribute to the man who portrayed Jesse McGregor.

Home and Away’s official Instagram account posted a heartfelt tribute to the late Ben Unwin on behalf of the cast and crew, writing: “The cast and crew of Home and Away are saddened to hear the passing of Ben Unwin.”

“Ben played the character Jesse McGregor and joined the cast in 1996 – 2000, returning to Summer Bay in 2002 – 2005. We send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ben.” 

Co-star’s Ada Nicodemou – who’s character Leah Patterson had a brief romantic storyline with Ben’s character – and Lynne McGranger also paid tribute to Ben, with Ada telling Yahoo Lifestyle“I just woke up to the tragic news of Ben’s passing, my heart goes out to his family.”

Meanwhile castmate Lynne McGranger – who currently plays Irene Roberts – described it as a “terrible tragedy”.

“Deepest condolences to his friends and family,” she said.

A spokesperson for Seven Network has also released an official statement: “Cast and crew from Home and Away are saddened to learn of the passing of former castmate, Ben Unwin.

“Ben’s work in the role of Jesse McGregor is remembered with much affection.

“Ben’s family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers.”
