Transform your bedroom into a winter haven thanks to these top heaters

Chase away the chill for a good night's sleep. - by Isabelle Knevett

Now that winter has dug in its icy talons across Australia, the time to weather proof your home has arrived.

And if you're sick of shivering, sleepless nights – finding the perfect bedroom heater should be top priority.

WATCH: How To Keep Warm This Winter Without Turning On The Heater

Living in Australia, we understand that our weather can be temperamental at best, and your home might not be equipped for flash freezing temps and winter winds. So finding an affordable and effective heater to cosy up by is a worthy buy.

Which type of heater is best for bedroom?

If you're after a heating solution that doesn't require the layering of blankets, jumpers and more (although we do have some great suggestions if you're interested), then choosing between all of the different types of heaters is your first task.

There are actually six different types of heaters to suit your needs. However, it is recommended for bedrooms to lean towards the below:

Perhaps the highest recommended type of heater for bedrooms is the oil-filled heater. They're silent which is great for night-time, have many heat settings and timers to ensure safety and can retain heat once turned off for long-lasting heat, making them more energy efficient.

Convection heaters are particularly adept at heating up bedrooms, they work by drawing in cold air and passing it out into the room once it has been warmed. They're great for bigger-sized rooms and are safe to keep on for long periods of time. The only down side is they may not be as silent as other alternatives, so if you're a light or sensitive sleeper keep that in mind.

If you're looking for affordability, a radiant bar heater is a great option. They work by emitting heat from built in bars and radiate heat to targeted areas, which makes it great for smaller sized bedrooms or studies. Although they aren't ideal for long-term use and are best if you don't have pets or small kids due to the heating elements.

What is the safest heater for sleeping?

Oil and convection heaters are usually the safest option to go for if you are looking for a heater that you can leave on while you sleep. As they tend to have a lower surface temperature, and don't have exposed heating elements they're a safe bet.

Just ensure no matter what type of heater to check for damages, oil spills, keep all flammable items away from any heater at all times and to turn it off when it is unattended.

The key to safety while you sleep is to search for a heater with timing functions so it can turn off once you have fallen asleep and turn back on before you jump out of bed in the morning.
