Hit sitcom reboot Roseanne has been cancelled after the show’s star, Roseanne Barr, sent out a series of racist tweets.

Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment, said in a statement, ‘Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.’

In a now deleted tweet, Barr said that White House aide Valerie Jarrett looked like a combination of ‘Muslim Brotherhood’ and ‘Planet of the Apes’.

Viewers were quick to call out her tweets, and the sitcom star responded, ‘Muslims are NOT a race.’

Roseanne later wrote, ‘I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste.’
