Mum-of-six who transformed her body shares her simple diet tricks

Australian mother Sharny Kieser reveals all to New Idea

An Australian mother-of-six who lost 30 kilos to transform her own body has shared her simple tricks to weight loss success.

Sharny Kieser says she had a ‘hollow, empty existence’ and felt like a ‘terrible mother’ before she embarked on a mission to change her lifestyle for good after the birth of her fourth child.

Sharny’s determination paid off.

Just 12 weeks after the birth of baby Emmett, she had lost 24 kilos and says she had also ‘gained her power back’.

Here, Sharny shares her top five fitness tips for busy mothers exclusively with New Idea.

Over eat on veggies

‘Vegetables have so much nutrition in them. There is also so much you can do with veggies so you don’t get bored,’ Sharny says.

‘Use cauliflower rice for a pizza base, create zucchini pasta or enjoy sweet potato chips. You can even use a lettuce leaf as a tortilla or large mushroom as a burger bun.

‘When you start to look for them, the varieties and opportunities with veggies are endless,’ the healthy mum says.

‘By eating 10 cups of veggies a day you will be nourishing your body the right way and won’t be left feeling hungry so it will eliminate that late night snacking and unnecessary hunger.’

Drink at least 3 litres of water a day

‘Remember that your body needs to flush the toxins and also the fat,’ Sharny explains.

‘By drinking lots of water along with amazing nutrition it can help with your fat loss.’

Don’t stress!

‘Stress is a real handbrake when it come to losing weight,’ Sharny says. ‘So do things to make you happy everyday.

‘Happiness is a choice and a behaviour, so in any moment just make that decision to stay happy.

‘Sometimes we can’t always control the situation we are in but we can choose how we behave.

‘We find with the thousands of mums on our program that if they are stressed, no matter how good their diet or exercise is, they just don’t lose any weight. As soon as they relax, the fat falls away.’

Prep your food!

‘Don’t wait until you are hungry to decide what you are going to eat,’ Sharny advises.

‘Eating the same meals everyday is something that can help when losing weight as it makes things so simple so you can focus on being a mum and the busyness of life.

‘Also pre-chopping your veggies and storing them in airtight containers in the fridge can save lots of time.

‘As well as precooking your meals for the week and freezing them in easy to go sizes.’

Exercise with your children

‘This is an incredible way to have fun and create memories with your children,’ Sharny suggests.

‘For a lot of us finding the perfect time to exercise everyday just doesn’t happen as things always seem to get in the way.

‘So rather than trying to find 45 minutes or even half an hour. Just play in the backyard for 15 minutes a day running around with your children.

‘Or do some squats and push ups in the lounge room with them. They will climb on top of you but that’s all part of the fun.’
