How to survive an Aldi sale

Get all the bargains you want with these proven methods

You’re ahead of the curve, you’ve signed up to get the Aldi newsletter delivered to your inbox, or maybe you’ve downloaded the app so you know exactly what you’re going to buy at the next Aldi Wednesday or Saturday Special Buys. You’ve seen what you want, now how to make sure you beat the crowds to get it? There’s a few strategies that will ensure a smooth transaction while stocks last. Here’s the game plan.

Research well

Sure, the closest Aldi might be handy but it can also be the one that like-minded shoppers snap up the bargains you want as well. Set the alarm this Wednesday or Saturday, mark down exactly what you want on your shopping list and consider going farther afield to a less popular, or bigger Aldi. The rewards in that centre aisle may well be richer.

Go your separate ways

Don’t go alone. Bring a friend and come up with a cunning plan to stalk different areas of the centre aisles. They can buy the sheets for you both, while you concentrate on the bathroom products. Or when it’s an extra-popular sale, such as the ski sale in May you can make it a two-pronged attack to get to the goods. Leave the kids at home, they will slow you down and possibly linger in the lolly aisle. A quick game is a good game.

Bring your trolley token

Regular Aldi shoppers will already have their reusable 99cent trolley token on their keyring. It means you don’t have to spend any time scratching around your purse looking for a gold coin to get that trolley. Don’t have one yet? You can buy trolley tokens at the checkout for next time. While you’re at it, don’t forget your own reusable shopping bags.

Miss out? There may be a second chance

People love a bargain, and entrepreneurial types may want to cash in on this. Check out Gumtree or Ebay to see what’s up there. You never know, that ski puffer jacket in your size that sold out just before you entered might be up there for around the same price, it’s worth a look.

Sign up for Special Buys in advance
Aldi’s Special Buys go on sale every Wednesday and Saturday and are themed to fit the kinds of things customers are most likely to be interested in at that time of year. To make sure you know what’s coming up next, sign up to ALDI’s Special Buys newsletters.
