Georgie Gardner calls Karl Stefanovic pathetic

She makes her feelings clear amid scandalous revelations in this week's New Idea

It seems plenty of Australians who usually avoid the Nine Network’s Today Show tuned in this morning to study Karl Stefanovic and co-host Georgie Gardner for signs of reaction to New Idea’s exclusive revelations about Karl’s comments about his TV co-stars.

And they weren’t disappointed, with many on social media noting the tension between the duo, and some convinced that a chat about sausage dogs between the two co-hosts seemed to be about much, much more.

With Karl revealing he was once savaged by a sausage dog as a child, newsreader Deborah Knight suggested: ‘You’ve got to face your fears, Karl.’

Georgie – who was one of the subjects of Karl’s 45-minute conversation with brother Peter, added: ‘Well, that’s right. That’s coming up, don’t you worry about that.’

Georgie then suggested the famously small, short-legged and cute dogs were ‘menacing’, to which Karl said: ‘I sense a little sarcasm in your voice.’

Then came the comment that everyone is talking about, when Georgie replied, ‘Well, it’s probably about now I should call you pathetic.’

Karl seemed keen to make sure the chat remained firmly about dogs, responding, ‘Hello. I was wounded. I was five and I was wounded and I was bleeding profusely.’

‘Our hearts are bleeding, aren’t they Deb?’ replied an unsmiling Georgie.

Karl’s comments about Georgie and Richard Wilkins, and Peter’s own unedifying rant, are the talk to the country today. Also revealed are eyebrow-raising new details of Karl’s commitment ceremony with partner Jasmine.
