Burns survivor Dana Vulin shares her skincare secrets

The inspirational Aussie says needling was just one of the treatments that transformed her skin

Inspirational burns survivor Dana Vulin has revealed the treatments that helped save her skin.

Perth-based Dana – who was doused in methylated spirits and set alight by a jealous woman who wrongly thought she was sleeping with her husband in 2012 – has undergone more than 200 operations since her ordeal.

But in an Instagram post to her 34,000 followers, the courageous 31-year-old opened up about what she did to get her skin back in the condition it’s now in.

‘I am always asked by other burns survivors, people with skin issues and/or disfigurements what I did,’ Dana wrote.

‘Aside from the obvious initial grafts and wearing my compression garments, I have had a lot of laser, steroid injections, PRP and needling.

‘For me the two main and most effective treatments/procedures were the laser and the steroid injections,’ Dana continued.

‘Laser is not just used for burns scars and burn survivors. Anyone who is looking to dramatically increase the quality, pigment, collagen, blemishes, wrinkles, fine limes, freckles etc can use it and I highly recommend it.’

Dana went on to explain that the laser she uses is the CO2 Fractional Ultra Pulse laser.

‘Yes this hurts, but it works,’ she wrote. ‘The second most effective thing I do is steroid injections into the bands of my scaring as it dramatically helps improve the height, density, colour and width of the scar.

‘Essentially it fast forwards the healing process of the scar – which will then in turn provide more mobility and less of a pull.

‘However I have had hundreds of these injections over the years. It’s something that needs to be done frequently and is very affordable.

‘Seriously, you really need to scroll through my feed to truly appreciate how good of a job these treatments have really done and how much of a transformation I have made,’ Dana, who published a book about her ordeal ‘Worth Fighting For’ in August, concluded.

‘I’ve also been getting the laser on my chest and arms and even my body has come so far. That’s on top of my grafts.

‘I may as well share what I have learned. I will continue to try new technologies and post on anything very effective. A big shout out to all my initial surgeons who grafted me and team from The Fiona Stanley Burns Unit. Bunch of Legends.’
