Former Dancing with The Stars favourite Todd McKinney is back in the headlines today, with allegations that his public utterances about his sister Lisa’s marriage allegedly contributed to the union’s collapse after 32 years.
Todd created a sensation late last year when he casually announced on Melbourne gay radio station Joy FM that his sister married his ex-lover of seven years, former TV star and onetime heartthrob Simon Gallagher. The revelation created a huge family rift, and now show business reporter Peter Ford has revealed just how bad the impact truly was.
‘Simon went into a very dark place, even contemplated suicide, it has also destroyed his marriage to Lisa after 32 years,’ Ford told radio station 6PR.
McKenney, who has since publicly apologised to his family for the hurt caused, last year described the unusual family connection as ‘weird.’
‘She married my ex-boyfriend and is still married to my ex-boyfriend but just has never mentioned it to me,’ he told Joy FM.
‘It’s weird isn’t it? I don’t think I’ve ever spoken about it publicly.

‘I’m sick of not talking about it. For the sake of [the couple’s three children] I haven’t said it, but they’re grown up now and I get on with them and they know the stories now.’
Lisa has not publicly commented on the drama, but last year wrote some terse words on Facebook.
‘Oh I’m okay, my brother is being a douch [sic] bag] she wrote last year. ‘We all have to just duck the fall out now. Selfish lying idiot.’
Simon posted on Facebook, ‘I have only one thing to say. Todd McKenney is a Headline W***e. Shame on him. His sister on the other hand is the love of my life and wife of over 31 years. I love her to the end of the world.’
Now, according to Ford, all three parties are not talking to each other, and it seems that Todd’s apology has not been sufficient to heal wounds.
‘After the events over the past week I’d like to apologise for any hurt caused to members of my family,’ Todd said last year. ‘It was NEVER my intention to hurt anyone. I’m so sorry. Hopefully we can sit down together one day and discuss any issues out of the public eye.’
Let’s hope they can sort it out soon.
